A message from the President

This year we celebrate our 130th Show and I feel proud that since 1884 we, as a ‘volunteer’ organisation, still manages to deliver to the wider community of the Southern Highlands what has, and still is, one of the biggest events in its yearly calendar.

I believe that this year has been a milestone for the show society.

Firstly, we had a very successful show with all Section’s up in numbers of entries, which is very pleasing to see, and a great result for all the Section head’s. Without their tireless efforts our show could not be the success it is and I sincerely thank you all for the time that you all put in to the show to make it the success that it is.

This year we also gained approval from the State Government and Council to have Caravan’s and large RV’s to be able to camp at the show ground. This is a huge boost to the Societies income generating ability.

For the first time, since I have become President, the show society has been in a position to be able to make some large improvements to the ground and assets. Some of the improvements achieved this year were the re-cladding of the lower canteen, lining the interior of the lower canteen, removing the old cattle wash and installing water points for the camping area, installing a dump point, top dressing the main arena, cleaning up of the main arena bank, re-sealing of the bitumen driveways and roads, purchasing a travelling irrigator and purchasing a new tractor.

This is a fantastic achievement for all those on the committee to be able to see all the selfless time and effort that they have put in together, giving these huge results, in an economic climate like we’re experiencing currently.

I truly thank all the people that have given so much this year to achieve what we have.

The society is in a good position currently to continue to improve the assets that we have into the future.

Thank you for all your continued support and I hope you have a great time at our 130th Show.

Mr Brian Spence
